Why and how is allergy testing done?
Why is allergy testing performed?
It is a good precaution to do an allergy test before using any cosmetic product, regardless of whether it is natural or synthetic.
Especially relevant to natural skin care products, essential oils are very potent ingredients and can contain various allergens. Therefore, formulas are prepared with specific dermal limits in mind for each essential oil used in the product.
Allergy is a symptom specific to each individual, and this possibility remains valid even for appropriately formulated and dermatologically tested products.
It is the responsibility of all manufacturers to their consumers to warn about allergy testing.
How is an allergy test performed?
Allergy testing is a simple method used to assess how your skin will react to a skincare product. If your skin is going to react to a product, you might prefer to see it first on your arm, for example, rather than on your face.
1) Test area: An area that is less visible, sensitive, and will not need to be washed for 24 hours is usually chosen, such as the inside of the arm.
2) Wash and dry the area you will test.
3) Take a small amount of the product to be tested and apply a thin layer to the test area.
4) Do not wash the area for 24 hours after application. Allergic reactions usually occur much sooner, but it is best to wait 24 hours.
5) Evaluation: If you experience redness, itching, blistering, burning, or any other signs of irritation, do not use the product. If you do not observe any adverse reactions, you can begin using the product.
