Double Cleansing Method

What is Double Cleansing?
Double cleansing, as the name suggests, is a technique that aims to cleanse the skin in two different stages. The purpose of this cleansing method is to gently remove all dirt, makeup, and other pollutants from the skin, ensuring a deep cleanse.
These two stages are applied as follows:
1. First Stage: Oil-Based Cleansing
The logic here is to cleanse oil-soluble impurities (sebum residue, makeup products, and sunscreen residues, etc.) with oil.
Natural vegetable oils are used in this stage. Oils are applied by gently massaging them into the skin, allowing oil-soluble impurities on the skin to dissolve, thus gently removing makeup, dirt, and other oily substances on the skin. Afterwards, it is wiped off with a damp, clean tissue or paper towel. Malen's Natural Skincare 360° Multi-Use Oil, with its 17 different botanical ingredients, gently dissolves both makeup and sunscreen while nourishing the skin—making it an ideal option for oil-based cleansing.
2. Second Stage: Water-Based Cleansing
The second stage aims to remove fine residues, dirt, and sweat remaining on the skin using a water-based cleanser. Here, water-activated products (i.e., foaming products containing surfactants) such as gel cleansers, milk-formulated cleansers, or foam cleansers are preferred. This stage thoroughly cleanses the skin, helps tighten pores, and leaves the skin feeling fresh.
Benefits of Double Cleansing:
1. Deep Cleansing:
This method ensures the complete removal of all makeup, dirt, and pollutants from the skin. While oil-based products dissolve impurities, water-based products help cleanse the skin deeply.
2. Skin Smoothness and Radiance:
Cleansing the skin of dirt and makeup residues results in a healthier and smoother skin appearance. It also reveals the skin's natural radiance.
3. Enhances the Effectiveness of Other Skincare Products:
Clean skin allows subsequent skincare products (serums, moisturizers, masks) to be absorbed better. Clean skin maximizes the effectiveness of these products.
4. Pore Cleansing:
Double cleansing removes dirt and blockages in the pores, which helps prevent the formation of pimples and acne.
5. More Effective Makeup Removal:
Oil-based cleansers gently dissolve every layer of makeup, ensuring no makeup residue is left on the skin. This helps prevent signs of aging on the skin.
DOUBLE CLEANSING FOR DIFFERENT SKIN TYPES
Double cleansing is suitable for all skin types, but there are some points to consider for specific skin types:
Dry Skin:
Oil-based cleansers are excellent for dry skin because they do not disturb the skin's moisture balance and keep the skin softer. When choosing a water-based cleanser, gentle formulas such as milk-formulated cleansers or moisturising cleansers should be preferred.
Oily and Acne-Prone Skin:
Oily skin also benefits from double cleansing, as oil-based cleansers gently dissolve excess sebum and dirt. Choosing a facial oil containing Salicylic acid in the first stage will increase the effectiveness in pore cleansing. In the water-based stage, gels or mattifying cleansers can be preferred.
In acne-prone skin, the skin should also be deeply cleansed. When choosing an oil-based cleanser, options containing anti-acne formulations and non-comedogenic oils should be preferred. In the water-based stage, cleansers with antibacterial properties can be used.
Sensitive Skin:
For sensitive skin, gentle and natural formula cleansers that are alcohol- and paraben-free are recommended. In the first stage, mild oil-based cleansers, and in the second stage, gentle cleansers with moisturizing and soothing properties should be preferred.
DOUBLE CLEANSING TIPS:
Correct Product Selection:
Choosing appropriate oils and cleansers for each skin type is crucial.
Water Temperature:
Avoid using excessively hot water when applying cleansers. Lukewarm water helps cleanse the skin without stripping its natural oils.
Gentle Application:
Apply the cleanser gently to your skin and massage it in circular motions instead of rubbing. Over-stretching or rubbing the skin can cause irritation.
Don't Rush:
Cleanse your skin by taking enough time without rushing. Viewing your skincare routine as an opportunity to relax a bit and be alone with your thoughts before going to bed can be helpful.
Regular Cleansing:
Double cleansing should generally be part of the night routine. Removing makeup and cleansing the skin of impurities supports your skin's regeneration overnight.
You Can Use Additional Products:
Using a toner after double cleansing helps remove dead skin cells and smooth the skin.
You can also perform the peeling process, which you need to do 1 or 2 times a week depending on your skin type and needs, after double cleansing.
Conclusion:
The double cleansing method is a worthwhile cleansing technique for anyone who prioritizes skincare. It deeply cleanses the skin, opens pores, and helps other skincare products to be more effective. If you regularly apply this method with products suitable for your skin type, you can achieve healthier, smoother, and more radiant skin.
